De Vin Wine & Deli Bar - Split, Croatia

After dinner one night in Split we stumbled across this wine bar for a night cap, called De Vin Wine & Deli Bar . We were fortunate to have met Gašper the owner of this cute and cozy wine bar. He along with his staff were some of the most friendliest and welcoming people we have met in Croatia. Only opened about a month prior to our visit, this place has some of the finest wines from Croatia, Bosnia, Slovenia, Spain, Italy, and France.  With Gašper's extensive knowledge on wine, he not only introduced us to good Croatian wine but some of the best wines we have ever tasted. While enjoying your wine you can also enjoy authentic Croatian food and the cheese and meat plates are amazing! Rare spirits are served as well and offers outdoor seating with views looking out towards the Adriatic Sea

Wine Bar BORNSTEIN -  Zagreb, Croatia

Steps away from the Zagreb Cathedral, we read about a 200 Year old brick cellar from the New York Times. This is known to most outsiders as a hidden gem in Zagreb and is really easy to miss if you don't know about it. We were lucky enough to meet the owner who has a strong passion for wine, including  the staff who are very knowledgable on as well. They wine bar has an archived area of fine wines dating back as far as 1947.

No wine bar is complete without cheeses and meats and Wine Bar Bornstein did not disappointment. The bread, the olive oils, the truffles.....All delicious. Don't leave without stopping by their beautiful gift shop.

A day well spent at Wine Bar Bornstein, tasting some of the finest wines from the Croatian region inside a cosy vaulted brick cellar. The perfect atmosphere making it easy to get cozy and comfy and easily lose count of how many glasses of wine you have consumed. But hey, you can never drink enough fine wine!

Bistro & Cocktail Lounge ASSINATURA - Lagos, Portugal

We stumbled across this cool bar located in the city center for a beer just after arriving in  Lagos. Our waitress was very sweet as she brought us our beers but let us know they were known for their cocktails and even it was "Happy Hour"!  They had many to choose from and we are bad when it comes to making cocktail choices since we are more beer drinkers. We asked her to choose for us and wow! We were not disappointed. They were delicious and refreshing as you can see from the photos the cocktail presentation was very impressive. So when in Lagos, Portugal we highly recommend stopping by Bistro & Cocktail Lounge Assinatura to enjoy some tasty refreshing signature cocktails.

The Hole In The Wall - Kilkenny, Ireland

You Absolutely cannot visit Ireland without having a pint of beer at one of the many Pubs. They are known for their welcoming atmosphere and low ceilings, some even being hundreds of years old. Then there's The Hole in The Wall in Kilkenny. This was an awesome experience and a check off our bucket list. The history of this location dates back to 1582, and was even known as the most popular tavern back in the 1790's! Finding the Hole in the Wall can be an adventure as there is no signs out on the Main Street and is easily missed and if you don't know about it, you would never find the pub. We found the tunnel off the street leading to the pub, and finally saw the sign at the very back of the tunnel walkway, "The hole in the Wall." Once you find the sign, it still looks like there is no bar in sight other then just stone ruins and a beautiful patio but keep walking and you eventuallycome to an entrance to a small stone pub which literally is a hole in the wall with no modern touches! Just a cozy hole in the wall with beer and coffee and a friendly entertaining bar staff who will tell you the story behind this preserved structure from the 1500's. Just a small intimate room with lots of story telling. So when in Kilkenny, make some time to visit The Hole in the Wall, its a very cool experience.

The Whiskey Experience - Edinburgh, Scotland

The Whisky Experience in Edinburgh is exactly what it is, an experience! The tour begins with a very cool ride inside a whisky barrel touring the history of Whisky in Scotland. At the start of the tour you are not allowed to take any pictures unfortunately, so no pics of the whiskey barrel ride! sorry! The tour breaks down the 6 regions in Scotland which produce whisky. Each region has its unique distinct flavor and process. Scotch Whisky is produced through out these regions called, Highlands, Speyside, Lowlands, Campbeltown, Islay and Islands.

My husband is a speyside whisky drinker but I was never a big whisky fan but will admit I now have a pallet for whisky and prefer whisky from the Lowlands!   The experience  has media room where they will break down the whisky aromas from the 6 regions to a whisky tasting room where you can choose a dram of whisky from any of the regions, they even give ya a scratch and sniff sheet of the different regions to make it easier to find a whisky of you pallet. Shortly after you will be taken into the worlds biggest collection of whisky showcase. There is even a Whisky as old as the late 18th century! Whisky loses about 2 percent of out of the barrel a year, called the "angels share" in Scotland. A whisky has to be aged a minimum of 3 yrs to be considered a scotch whisky, ok getting to into detail again sorry! hehehe. Back to the tour, it will end at a whisky bar where you can try different whisky's from the 6 regions through out ScotlandPlease make time to take the Whisky experience tour wether you like whisky or not, you even get a free Glencair glass, the official whisky glass in Scotland, the shape of the glass is derived from the traditional nosing copitas used in whisky labs around Scotland.
